20 mins more to bedtime (might as well do something)

I'm targeting that will last for 20 mins in the process of typing. So right now, I'm wondering what to type. Well, not really. This post will be really brief (hopefully) where I will just do some mental doodling where some of the stuff in A Requiem From Winter Past will look.

Updated edit: Pretty much most of the post was written days ago. I lost count because I was under too much fatigue. At the same time, SingTel has the tendency to kill off the internet connection after 12 midnight. The frequency is so consistent, I can only say something has been purposely planned since day 1. To set the record straight, the act of connection murder mostly affected my gaming. Albeit things used to be worse even prior to midnight because my sis is still a pseudo-Korean.

Fragarach
The thing with Aeravor's sword is that it should be a longsword. Otherwise known as a bastard sword, the longsword actually exists. Also known as the hand-and-a-half sword, there's definitely a need to create a sword hilt spanning... well, one hand and a half. I did a brief Wikipedia search (actually, Wikipedia can be fairly reliant if you're only searching for the general stuff instead of specific details). Interestingly enough, the longsword as we're familiar with (think quite literally a bastard sword) has a cruciform hilt. What it means is that the crosspiece is long enough to form a cross shaped lower half so as to speak.

For Fragarach, my design consists of...

1. A hilt spanning one hand and a half.
2. A short crosspiece.

So what this means is that while Aeravor's version of the Answerer (since he's the owner, not me) is somewhat consistent with the standard longsword, the look would not be cruciform. Ideally, the length of the crosspiece should be either equal to or slightly over the span of one hand's knuckles. The crosspiece isn't meant to be prominent. Rather, it's the same concept as a tsuba (i.e. the handguard of a katana).

As a result of this mental picture, I'm now toying with an idea or few concerning weapons forged during the Age of Renown. Nothing absolute, though.

Note: The concept of Fragarach also known as the Answerer has given me some ideas on where to take it. Suffice to say, the world will be much safer if there's such a lie detector.

Gael Kodr
His current look is that of the stereotypical local Singaporean NSF. Nothing worthy of note looks wise (since stereotypical local S'porean guy enjoys talking about SPG and how his girlfriend would rather have a Magic Mike XXXL). Likewise, Gael's look comprises of the standard crew cut and a look akin to the stereotypical pre-plastic surgery Korean look (not that stereotype is some universal law anyway).

Note 1: In his intro chapter, there's this flashback scene where the three amigos got themselves into trouble. That particular scene was inspired by a real life tragedy. Eerily enough, a similar tragedy happened recently.

Note 2: In the latest chapter, something was said about his brash character. The particular comment was inspired by an incident which exploded out of TV.

Alestrial Eliaden
In the freak event where A Requiem From Winter Past manages to hit the bookshelf (be it either literally, digitally, or both), it means I'll have to do a Total Recall. Originally, her look was based off Park Shin-hye. Not that I'm a fan anyway (albeit I do have my chaotic neutral moments for the lack of a better description). In fact, my original intention was to base her off a Japanese actress. The problem was, I was already way out of the loop since the popularity of J-dramas started dwindling. Coincidentally, my sis was watching the K-drama You're Beautiful. I don't have to tell who's the protagonist here. So... yeah, I basically got nothing better to do. You know how creative bastards think, hence the fact that people like me are somewhat a case of persona non grata in the island of Singapura.

Funnily enough, it could have easily been the likes of Horikita Maki, Toda Erika, and Aragaki Yui. Just don't ask me whether Aragaki-san is taken off the shelf. I don't annoy Jay Chou for a living.

Now back to topic. How do I envision Alestrial? Firstly, she's East Asian. What this means is that as a race, there's nothing exclusively Chinese, Japanese, or Korean when it comes to the Cinha ethnicity. Granted a sharp eyed observer can detect the difference in details features wise, but not everybody is a Robin Hood seeking his Chinese/Japanese/Korean Maid Marian. Secondly, I personally like the wavy long hair look when it comes to the nobility. Despite the most obvious fact that she's adopted, Alestrial remains a member of the nobility.

Note: There's a reason behind my chaotic neutral moment where it's very easy to mistake me for a psycho. I have this tendency to be emotionally attached to my characters.

Adine
I'm not gonna tell you whether Adine will become a key player in the storyline. That's up to yours truly to decide. However, I do enjoy doing the whole ugly duckling concept at times.
Just don't ask me how accurate the above meme actually is.
So how do I envision her? Basically a willowy figure and pretty face. As for her hair, it should be dark brown (i.e. a brunette), straight, and long. Because of the nature of her work, she's always wearing a ponytail more oft than not. Come to think of it, maybe this should be the way she looks in the story.

Weisslynn
I don't think I've done her look yet in the story (then again, I doubt I've done many of such things). However, I do see her as someone with black hair reaching to her shoulder blades. As for her physique, I guess she's counted as petite (maybe slightly over 1.6 m). Unlike Adine, Weisslynn's introduction may have left me with too little leeway in making her as just another background character.

Originally, her name is Leesya. I regretted making this choice because I realised it's not always fun to mess around. How in the blue hell was I unable to come up Weisslynn may possibly be due to my creativity getting short circuited. Trauma wise, I decided to retain the whole ordeal. After all, I don't see a need to change things for the sake of political correctness.

Lolyx
In the original draft, she's a pure Cinha. At this point of time, I prefer to create half a Cinha. The reason why being that it's far easier to create that tanned complexion look. I can try answering whether it's possible for an East Asian to be tanned naturally (of course, it's possible), but I think I'm really stuck on the stereotypical East Asian complexion thing. Hey, it's not my fault that so many East Asian celebrities are fair rather than dusky!

At the same time, I need to create a plot device for her. The reason being that she saw something in Lars which no naked eye can ever perceive. I don't have to spoil this for you all because it's already outed in the open.

Personality wise, one can be forgiven for thinking that she's a tad annoying for a tsundere character. As for her figure, either it's implied that she's really got a decent one or it's just something coming out from the so-called locker room banter. And yes, Lars is capable of the latter.

As for the hair, I'm envisioning a shorter ponytail than Adine.

Seelia
Implied (?) to be a major side character in the making. Can you believe that I've yet to set down a certain set of rules concerning the Kalarans, Teutonians, and Slarvs? The stupid thing lies in the fact that all three northern ethnicities come from a common set of genetics. Unlike the Cinha, they have their own borders, culture, and society. It's not something like comparing the Gaels with Romans just to show an example. In fact, it's more akin to comparing an American Chinese with a Singaporean Chinese. I think I need a Total Recall. Either that or I can try taking ideas from the Byzantine Empire. Why I mentioned this was because Seelia is a Teutonian. Interestingly enough, the Seelia reads a bit like the word Seelie. It was an accident, I swear.

On her looks, I think you should know what shoulder length red hair looks like. I know this next statement is something tantamount to objectifying women, but I have to admit to giving her a decent figure. Which now comes to...

Sarel Aphros
One amusing fact I've discovered about we guys is this: We tend to lose our rationality to hormones. This is especially so during puberty. In fact, that's why every self-respecting parent will always be on high alert whenever their tweenage daughter gets a boyfriend. Sarel is basically my own way of proving how true this logic can be. Trust me when I say mind games tend to be more lethal than war games.

This femme fatale is a seductress in every sense of the word. If you still don't know what I'm talking about, then I give up on your IQ. As for the provocative nature of her dressing, it's to further hammer home what she's capable of. More oft than not, popular culture tends to glorify boobs more than anything else. While there's now more emphasis placed on legs and buttocks, I won't be surprised if plenty of men are still instinctively attracted to a woman's chest more frequent than not. I still do have this impression that magazine shoots involving ladies and lasses tend to focus on the breasts. That's how screwed up things are if I say so myself. Case in point: Emma Watson and Vanity Fair.

On her looks, the inspiration is still the same. Namely, a white woman named Sally.

Note 1: One interesting question I'm having right now is the nature of her dressing. My plan was to create something simple to its very core, yet bringing forth that temptress' feel.

Note 2: Having her going commando is basically my way of upping the stakes.

Lars Alterfate
Another character who dresses provocatively. His look was partially inspired by Gilgamesh of the Fate series. In other words, there were moments where the King of Heroes looked like this.

I'll have to admit I've been dabbling with certain aspects of the J-culture. Which now comes that most challenging question: How am I going to give a reason for that within the plot? Mind you, I don't have to follow the stereotypical shounen/shoujo/seinen manga fare when it comes to everything concerning the wardrobe options. For Sarel's case, it's pretty much blatant and anything but this.

When it comes to the physical looks, I decided to retain the shounen manga protagonist concept. However, the hairstyle is something waiting to be worked with. Initially, it was a copy-and-paste Gilgamesh. Then I realised there's no point doing so. Next up, I decided to give him a blonde fringe, but it didn't feel tout naturel. In the end, I decided to go simple. In other words, I used my geeky hairstyle as the blueprint because I don't want to burn up too much of my creative fuel.

Note: The part where Lolyx has a vision concerning Lars was actually something I took from this scene below.

Arondight
Originally, I made him out to be a handsome hulk of a man. After all, which lady wouldn't refuse a handsome knight complete with machismo? The problem is this: I don't want my work to read too much like a stereotypical manga where even the fodder can look like a K-pop male idol. Ultimately, I decided to make the description as vague as possible apart from his rugged looks. There's no reason behind this decision apart from letting the readers do the visualisation themselves. I'm truly ashamed to say this out, to be honest. I guess that's because of the tragic character called Sir Lancelot du Lac.

I'll have to be brutally frank here. Arondight is Lancelot in a certain sense. In fact, Arondight happened to be one of Lancelot's noble phantasms in Fate/Zero. At the same time, chivalry has always been part and parcel of knighthood as we know it. While reality tends to be the polar opposite to idealism, I actually saw it worthwhile for Arondight to be that very image of idealism.

In terms of looks, he doesn't look like a knight. More likely one would call him a peasant or woodsman instead.

Note: I suddenly realised I may have created a case of surreality. Both Weisslynn and Seelia saw justice done to their torturers via a madman's blade. Yet, the respective endings were anything but similar.

Tristan Aias
Despite his name sounding English (in particular, Tristan was the male protagonist of Tristan and Iseult), this guy isn't white so as to speak. Hailing from the Sudhlit ethnicity, he's basically... well, Tamil. Very little has been outed for him, but in terms of looks, I opted for the classic scoundrel. The way he talks is that of a scoundrel (or at least that's what I'm trying to do). Therefore, it's only right that I try giving him a scoundrel's looks.

When it comes to scoundrels, there would always be those capable of stealing hearts and money in the same mention. I won't be surprised if this has been a commonly used trope throughout the history of story-telling. Because he's someone going around like an adventurer, I decided to give him an adventurer's look with the swashbuckling type in mind.

As for his... well, philandering ways, I actually took a leaf out of India's book. I don't want to sound racist here, but I actually got to know about the so-called rape culture there years before New Delhi erupted into moral chaos (not that a rape culture isn't morally chaotic). In terms of treating women, there's no difference between Tristan and Lars just like there's no difference between Brock Turner and a rapist in India. In terms of getting drunk, I'm pretty sure plenty of Indians will either crucify me or agree with me.

Tristan is an interesting character so as to speak. On one hand, getting wasted on alcohol was intended as a jab towards the stereotypical Tamil guy (in fact, such stereotyping actually exists in Singapore). On the other end, the way he interacted with women (more specifically the prostitutes so far) was intended as a statement of insult towards the rape culture in India. In other words, it's called comparing a flagrant scoundrel with a self-righteous scoundrel.

Note 1: I will never ever allow my future girlfriend to travel to India. Period.

Note 2: The word Sudhlit was inspired by the word Dalit. As you may have guessed by now, I absolutely detest the injustice caused by the Indian caste system.

Note 3: His identity as a military genius was inspired by Archer's fight against Lancer in Unlimited Blade Works (more specifically the original visual novel). However, further planning was more about individuals like Chen Ping and Guo Jia. Any similarity between Tristan and Scipio Africanus should be damn obvious by now.

Aeravor
Pretty much the standard ranger look if you're to ask me. As for the specifics, it's already been spoilt so as to speak. I don't have to tell you that he's a jerk, that he doesn't need any reason to kill people on the spot. Someone once called him a sociopath. Well, I can't deny this cold hard truth. Within the current span of chapters, I've created a humane side to his otherwise capricious personality. When I first created him, I intended him to be an anti-hero who will eventually turn good. That's when I was still more into the standard black-and-white high fantasy genre (something which I'm pretty sure my fellow Singaporeans would gladly write rather than say... being Singapore's answer to G.R.R Martin).

As time went by, I got enticed towards the dark side. This is not to say that my moral standards were changed. Rather, it's a matter of reality/cynicism over idealism. A lot may have been changed since the first draft, but it's never my intention to change Aeravor's character for what he ought to be. Namely, a sick bastard mirroring the worst in any person. Hence, the saying listed on top here

P.S: I'd like to include Lukas Brun and Edeaux de Serpentwine. Sadly, I need to sleep soon. Hopefully, I can start doing a similar post for the next arc. Not that the first one is finished, though.

Add P.S: To prove that I'm not being homophobic by excluding the two homosexual characters, let me point out that the likes of Catterm Leen, Torve Mowbray, and Garev Southgate are not in this post as well.

Final P.S: Just a couple of vids. One is a BGM, the other an actual song.

冬の鎮魂曲~ガンドの鋼

I blame Mr Chou. No, not Mr Chow unless you can't differentiate alphabets in the same way you're too dumb to differentiate an American Korean from a Taiwanese.

A/N: Can't think up of any wisecracking statement for the Joanna Dong vid. The reason why? Below vid explains my situation best.

Brain went kaput...

After some consideration, I decided to phase out 4 characters out of my current 7 in my character roster for Neverwinter. The reason why being that...

1. The original purpose was to experiment with different characters and builds. As of now, it's officially proven as something undoable. And it doesn't help that I can't multitask like a Singaporean. No choice, my brain isn't born this way.

2. Too many distractions based on the numbers. As a result, I lost count on how long it took me to get Arylos (my main) up to the state of optimal prime.

3. Out of the current 7, only Arylos, Cyrea Durothil, and Myrreas will remain in active mode.

I may have accidentally made Myrreas look a wee bit like Leonardo DiCaprio...

Idealistic Dany, idealistic Rhaegar... not to mention idealistic Cyrea as well.
Oh, I just discovered the actual Khaleesi is shorter than me at 1.57m.
Just don't ask me how I got the info.

It's official right from the beginning, Arylos is inspired by Archer and Emiya Kiritsugu.

Note: Above statement was written a few days ago by my guess.

So what am I going to do here?
I find that it's far better for me to start writing stuff concerning the world of Crucible via an informal manner more than like doing stuff the normal way. At the same time, I'm down with too much gaming and too little writing. Despite my annual resolution to rouse myself from a writer's slumber, I realised I've failed terribly.

Currently, I'm starting the first paragraph of a new chapter. Problem is, progress is stalled for the most obvious reason. On the flip side, however, procrastination has resulted in random inspirations, ideas which are actually implementable. Ironically, I may not end up thinking of using them if procrastination on my side is a myth.

Before I start...
Let me just say that the cynical bastard in me has been proven right once again. In a global culture where political correctness means idiocracy more oft than not, two news articles popped up today. While the first article sounds like a comforting tale of heroes and heroines rescuing a bevy of helpless damsels in distress, I ended up asking myself whether it's a must to have beauty pageants educating people on what real beauty is. By right, this should be the role of education. When you required beauty pageants to educate people on the most simple things, it means your educational culture is a failure. The school has failed all of us, ditto for our fathers, mothers, and grandfathers (plus every ah-ma as well).

As for the second article, this comes to mind something I heard 17 years ago. Namely, my country of Singapore banned Berserk. While I have nothing against the ruling (even unto now), I find it quite surreal that a nation founded upon Puritan values and freedom is now a reflection of a world portrayed below.

Plot twist: Guts is actually a device created by the Idea of Evil in order to test humanity.

So in this post, I'll be talking about...
...the Vánagandr, no less. Originally known as the True Apostles, I decided to do away with the senseless pomp. In fact, I was actually forcing myself to endorse this dumb idea because I was too much of a Nasu fanboy (that plus the term True Ancestors sounds too badass to ignore). If I am to choose between plagiarising Norse mythology and forcing a dumb idea down my own throat, I should have chosen the former far earlier.

When it comes to both the Real McCoy and Original Sanders, Vánagandr refers to the monstrous wolf Fenrir, son of Loki.
Definitely not that one above...

Also known as Fenrisúlfr (Old Norse/Icelandic: "Fenrir's wolf") and Hróðvitnir (Old Norse/Icelandic: "fame-wolf") unless Wikipedia is telling a big fat lie (read: you'll never know whether the ones who do the articles of their choice are liars). Fenrir would sound a tad too mundane, so imagine my joy when I realised it's possible to use Old Norse even though I'm no A-star scholar.

Also, there's a far more logical reason why I chose Vánagandr instead of the other names. The name means "the monster of the river Ván". When googling for river Ván, I came across this interesting article. Mockery and hatred, the two words commonly associated with Aeravor. If you still think my protagonist is a good guy in disguise, you're definitely dumber than you look. If I'm out to create a world where God doesn't exist, you can be very sure it's gloves off and knuckledusters on.

"We're merely wolves with an insatiable hunger, our thirst never slaked."
Above quote may sound awesome to you, but trust me when I say you won't find it anywhere in Google search. Which means if the above quote is awesome, that's because I came up with it. Otherwise, I'll still claim credit for it. When it comes to duty and a pack of wolves, House Stark and Lyanna Stark's bastard come into mind. Thing is, not every wolf is a Stark.

At the same time, I also devised the role of demon hunters for them. While this is not an exclusive role for the Vánagandr (in fact, the concept of demon hunter was originally only for Lars Alterfate), it must be stated that an idea conceived at the eleventh hour plus one does have its own merit. Basically, it gave me something to work on and branch off.

There's a reason why I upped the Witcher 3 trailer here (and no, it has got nothing to do with whether Emhyr var Emreis is related to anybody with the surname Lee). When we talk about witchers, it's not just one Geralt of Rivia. You have Eskel whose looks defied everything the (South) Koreans believe in. Then you have Lambert who is arguably more vulgar than the infamous MTV stunt pulled off years ago. Of course, we also have Vesemir who taught Geralt how to kill Imlerith posthumous.

Okay, enough about fan rambling. Let's get back to topic. Like the witchers, the Vánagandr hunt monsters (or in the world of Crucible, demons). The problem is... well, they're actually much more problematic than the Original Sanders both individually and collectively wise. I'm not going to spoil anything else apart from what is written beyond the canon. The reason why being that as a former Vánagandr, it's only right to expect Aeravor's character somehow tied to this bunch of guano loco hunters of monsters. Interestingly enough, it seems that any fear directed towards the witchers lies in a combination of the unwillingness to understand and self-righteousness. Apparently, the first ones were actually much more heroic than Letho the snake (quite obviously an understatement if you're to ask me).

"Monsters, one and all. There is no one righteous, not even one."
Again, if above quote sounds awesome to you, that's because I came up with it myself. Otherwise, I'll still claim the rightful credit. Interestingly enough, the latter sentence is derived from the Bible (more specifically Romans 3:10). This is not accidental. Rather, this is intentional.

As I've said already, Vánagandr means "monster of the river Ván". Quite obviously, there's more than one meaning behind this. On one hand, we have hunters of monsters who are no different from their prey. Then we have Aeravor. The best part? The possibility that everyone, Vánagandr or no Vánagandr, is a monster of the river Ván.

If I want to tell the cold hard truth, I have to admit that I'm going to have plenty of fun with this. In other words, playing with the darkness looming over humanity since day one.

Are they elves or are they not?
This is also another thing I'll be having fun with. Identity can be interpreted in ways more than one. Say for example you live in Singapore. Does that make you a Singaporean? If you're either a permanent resident or legal citizen, then quite obviously the answer is yes. If you're an expatriate, whether or not you're a foreign miscreant instead of being a foreign talent, then quite obviously the answer is no. The problem lies in another question: What if you're actually a Stark living amongst the Lannisters?

I'm not going to say whether the Vánagandr are truly not part of the Homm'Nua or whether their exclusion is down to the Stark-Lannister logic. However, I have to say that the killing scene here was inspired by the Suntec brawl. Or at least that's how I remember things since the first draft was actually done as early as... 2011 or so?

Okay, have to sign/log off for the day (or more specifically, night)
So is there anything else for me to say? Actually, the answer is yes. Firstly, I'm pretty sure someone has been sneaking into my home occasionally. When I asked my parents, their answer affirmed one thing: They know who is my legal housebreaker. I asked my sis, her reply basically betrayed the same answer. As for me... well, I think I know who she is. And why I use "she" instead of "he" is very simple. Because I think I know who my super mignonne legal housebreaker is. Also, I'm pretty sure she will be sitting beside me during my sis' wedding dinner.

P.S: More weird stuff going on where my blog is concerned. Whenever I upped a post, I'm guaranteed a view from someone with a Linux OS and Chrome browser. Daily guaranteed. 😱

Add P.S: Nearly forgot to share this piece of awesome music.

[冬の鎮魂曲] Acht

So what will I do here?
Basically, I'll be doing sellswords, mounts, and gear. Stuff which you can get in the lockboxes. Also, I'll be doing the various rarity/quality classification.

BFF: rarity and quality
The reason why I equate rarity and quality as BFF is very simple. If your girlfriend is rich, beautiful, and intelligent (not mention as well local Singaporean for all we poor thing local guys), it means two things.

1. Such a girlfriend is a rarity.
2. Such a girlfriend is a quality girlfriend.

For sellswords, mounts, and gear, the rarity/quality system goes by three tiers.

Standard: This is the common grade.
Superior: This is the second tier. Basically, this is another way to classify the item as rare.
Epic: The highest tier. Also known as super rare, anything with the epic label is guaranteed your effort's worth. Just like your rich, beautiful, and intelligent local Singaporean girlfriend. 😸

Gear
Gear can be separated into three categories. Namely. weapon, armour, and accessory. At the same time, gear stats is also a must.

Weapon:
The main source of damage dealt. Weapons are classified into four categories. One-handed, Two-handed, Thrown, and Ballistic.
One-handed weapons deal less damage per swing, but the attacks will come at a faster rate.
Two-handed weapons deal much higher damage per swing, but the attacks will come much slower.
Thrown weapons are missile weapons which can only be used via a percentage chance to trigger. However, thrown weapons will always hit unless the attack is negated.
Ballistic weapons are also missile weapons. Unlike Thrown weapons, they must be used per normal.

Armour:
The main source of protection. Armour is classified into three categories. Heavy, Medium, and Light.
Heavy armour prevents the most amount of physical damage with a percentage chance of negating damage instead. However, Heavy armour will restrict movement. Therefore, any magic used against such targets will have a critical chance bonus of 10% with direct damage dealt increased by 20%. Any ranged physical damage will have a base 40% chance of being negated unless fired from close range (i.e. not necessarily melee range, but close enough).
Medium armour prevents a decent amount of physical damage with a lower percentage chance of negating damage. Medium armour will not restrict movement. Hence, any magic used against such targets will not have any bonus conferred.
Light armour prevents the least amount of damage with the least chance of negating damage. Because Light armour is meant to facilitate movement, any magic used against such targets will suffer 25% penalty to hit. If any physical melee damage is negated via Light armour, the user will automatically deal an additional attack with 10% bonus chance to hit (note: this particular property can only trigger with One-handed weapons).

Accessory:
Accessories are miscellaneous items ranging from simple trinkets to exquisitely cut gems. While the accessory gear doesn't affect the character's effectiveness like weapons and armour, such an item will buff the character's combat performance and/or the utility aspects.

Core stats:
Power-For weapons. Power indicates the amount of damage which can be dealt. For accessories, it indicates how powerful the buff is.
Durability: For weapons and armour. Durability indicates how long the gear can be used without the need for maintenance.
Craftsmanship: For all three gear types. Craftsmanship indicates how much currency can be fetched. Don't ever underestimate the power of kaching. No, I'm not joking.

Sellswords
Obtaining sellswords via the lockbox works differently from scoring a gear. While sellswords can be hired in the actual game itself, such sellswords are only in the standard grade. For superior and epic grade sellswords, they can only be unlocked via lockboxes. In other words, scoring a sellsword this way merely means unlocking the option to hire him/her/whatever.

At the same time, sellswords as a term can be quite misleading. Not all of them are certified mercenaries. In fact, not all of them are considered mortals as we know it. The concept of elementals and magical beasts is never an alien territory in fantasy.

If you manage to unlock the same sellsword more than once, the outcome would be that the hiring fee demanded will be reduced with the maximum of three times. The first time will ensure 10% discount with the second time 20% fee reduction. For the third time lucky, it's 35%. Beyond the third time lucky, the unlocked sellsword will gain an increase in stats. 50% increase in a given stat per unlock.

Under specific circumstances, however, certain sellswords will pledge their services to you for free. But because this involves an oath sworn (quite literally), such a sellsword cannot be dismissed unless killed. Another alternative would be releasing that sellsword from the oath. However, this will also mean that sellsword won't return for good.

Like characters, sellswords need gear. Like any character, a sellsword needs a mount. Which now comes to...

Mounts
Mounts can be obtained in three ways. First, they can be purchased. However, such mounts tend to be of standard quality. Secondly, they can be tamed. These mounts tend to be of superior quality. Then you have those of epic grade. You can only get them via lockbox. Like any gear gained via lockboxes, the mounts you earned this way can either be kept or sold. Every character can only have one mount in the game, but more than one can be used via the sellswords.

Unlike gear and sellswords which are all about stats, mounts are only about travelling speed. Thing is, you don't expect to finish a journey on foot. This game's progression is also based on days, months, and even years. Below is the travelling speed of mounts according to rarity/quality.

Standard: 50% base chance of encountering foes during travel, 30% chance of outrunning the aggro.
Superior: 30% base chance of encountering foes during travel, 60% chance of outrunning the aggro.
Epic: 10% base chance of encountering foes during travel, 90% chance of outrunning the aggro.

Which now comes to...

Travelling
There will always be more than one mode of travel. However, travelling on dry land will always be the most common way to cover extensive mileage. In fact, this is the only way to travel unless specific conditions are met in order to merit a better/faster alternative.

Travelling in-game involves going from one settlement to another. Depending on the distance, you'll have a certain chance of encountering enemies. This so-called journey encounter comes in two types.

1. Outrun. This involves outrunning (duh!) the opponents when they try attacking you in the middle of travelling. Success means no need for combat engagement. Failure means you must engage in combat with 20% penalty suffered in damage reduction.
2. Resting. This involves combat as per normal. No option to run away, but at least they won't try dismounting you.

Note: Journey encounters will delay the travelling time, so please take note!

Add note: Travelling will consume food and/or potion at every fixed interval.

Usage of money
Money has its own uses. In a world where the only death and violence speak louder than money, it'd take an idiot not to bribe (or in PC speak, persuade). Problem is, it would be too difficult to implement bribery on the highest level in video games (read: there's only this much real when it comes to virtual reality since a shot to the head in video games can easily kill you in real life). Barring a few exceptions, bribery in this game means getting information. And to get information, you need informants. To get an informant talking, it's better to use money rather than actual force. An informant will have a money bag symbol hanging above so that mistaken identity won't result in needless death. Also, informants can be found everywhere and anywhere. Such a person can be the owner of a tavern, a serving wench, or just about anybody. Of course, this would also mean it's possible to get an informant bumming around at a brothel (read: you don't discount the possibility of a street-smart prostitute).

At the same time, money is needed to purchase the service of any sellsword. Unlike the informant, a sellsword will have a pile of coins as the symbol above.

As for gear maintenance, money is, again, a bloody must. No sane blacksmith is gonna do free labour for you. Period. And did I mention stuff like potions and food?

Places of interest (and no, Siloso Beach and its Sapphire Pavilion ain't part of that)
Smithy: This is where you buy and sell weapons and armour. At the same time, this is the only place where you can craft weapons and armour. Okay, this statement is a lie. It's the blacksmith who will do this for you. For a high fee of course since time is always money.

Stable: This is where you buy and sell mounts. Also, the only place where you can rest your breathing mode of transport.

Tavern: Basically the place where informants are expected to lurk.

Brothel: Same as above except the informants there are most likely harder to please. Hey, I did imply the Crucible is a world where the sun doesn't shine.

Store: Potion and food available here.

Next up: It's officially turn based combat. Plus some more details on the gear and what not.

P.S: It's been a cynical period for Singapore. Thankfully, being cynical means you've developed immunity just for such a moment. I don't have to elaborate anything beyond the fact that unkind years do have an unexpected effect on yours truly. When it comes to reality, I don't think like a Korean Park, I'm mentally prepared to be name dropped for being a jerk come the inevitable. Actually, I doubt that will happen anyway despite Alestrial's looks based off her (read: this is a case of random inspiration in the name of personal creativity). Either way, much better is for me to identify a part of myself with Guts.

Add P.S: Basically, that means upping all the chapters so far for A Requiem From Winter Past.

If I can plagiarise BGMs legally...

Theme of the Crucible (Main theme)

"Every person is a god before self, for the wolf knows best a sinful man."

Theme of Aeravor

"The Vánagandr are fearsome foes. They belong to Homm'Nua, yet they are never elves. Like a predator hunting its prey, they hunt demons not for righteousness and justice. To them, the euphoria resulting from the hunt is their meat. Beyond that, they are nothing more than wolves wearing the elven guise."

Theme of Gael Kodr

"No one ever said a lion is born to be one. Before a mane is grown, the cub will always be young and naive. That is why it only needs to feed, not to hunt. Yet, the day will come where the cub will die. Either as a carcass feeding the crows or a living lion true."

Theme of Alestrial Eliaden

"Every bonfire starts from a single spark and some dry wood. Likewise for the spirit which gives life in ways more than one. This is what separates mortals from mere animals."

Theme of Lars Alterfate

"Silver for monsters, such is the invocation from any member of the Holy Quintet clergy. Little does one know the true meaning of this statement, for no one knows where and when it hailed from."

Theme of Arondight

"Silver and steel, the two being different yet the same. It is like comparing humans with monsters. Different types of metal, yet metals all the same."

Note: Above list is merely me having nothing better to do since I don't do creative things for a living. And did I say I'm a cynic by nurture? Not by nature, but good enough.
